Wow, what a poor little beat-up recipe! Check out these reviews. One person hated the idea that it calls for food coloring. Huh. One person thinks that it tastes - impossibly, look at the ingredients - like *flour*. Another person is obviously bored and wants to insult someone. A couple people think it's not sweet enough - okay, I might buy that. I made this exactly as written this morning. A perfectly decent strawberry-banana smoothie, a little heavy on the cinnamon (which I thought was interesting rather than offensive). My fruit was quite ripe, so the sweetness was perfect for me. Mine is just another opinion. Thanks for the recipe!-10 Apr 2009

I'm sorry but the minute I read that the recipe called for food coloring I had to say something. A smoothie is a drink made with fruit so don't go and mess it up with something like that.-10 Feb 2008

If I could give this recipe a lower star rating I would. I love the strawberry-banana flavors together, but with a recipe like this, I think this person should be banned from any kitchen anywhere.-05 Mar 2008

The Best Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

Yes, this is the best strawberry smoothie in the history of the world. Made with only 3 ingredients, 2 of them being frozen strawberries and banana – this refreshing simple smoothie is healthy, easy to make and just delicious. It’s even better than a strawberry shake. I’m not lying.

Right now, I’m addicted to this. It’s sweet, fresh, tastes like a dessert without being overly sweet…You know that sweetness that gives you a hole in your tooth right away? Not that kind of sweetness. It’s a natural, refreshing sweetness that makes you feel good and smile.

This quick smoothie is perfect for a snack, whenever you need a little pick me up. I often make it when I need something sweet and I don’t want to poison myself. And, if your child is old enough to have milk – give them a sip too. Or use breastmilk. OMG, this would totally work. Probably. I don’t know – don’t do it. Do whatever you want.

Strawberry Smoothie Ingredients

To make this simple, but tasty smoothie you will need only 3 ingredients:

Strawberries. Use frozen strawberries to make this smoothie thicker and cooler without adding any ice. That is the big secret here, it helps get that beautiful texture – something between a slushy and a shake.

Banana. In this smoothie I used a fresh banana, but if you don’t have fresh bananas, you can also use frozen ones. It will make a thicker smoothie and you’ll probably need to add more liquid.

Liquid of choice. You can use regular milk, almond milk, coconut milk, orange juice or even water to make this or any other smoothie.

Optional: add some cinnamon, vanilla or if you want: Greek yogurt. To make the smoothie even healthier and more filling you can also add chia seeds, flax seeds, overnight oats or a Tbsp of your favorite nut butter.

Fruit To Add To A Strawberry Smoothie

If you don’t like bananas and would like to make a strawberry smoothie without banana, these fruits also would go well with strawberries:

You can use them fresh or frozen. They’re pretty sweet, so I always like to add a little bit of yogurt or coconut cream to balance it out.

Now, let’s get to the recipe.

Ingredients in this strawberry blueberry smoothie recipe

Of course, you could just throw quantities of strawberry, blueberry and banana into a blender. But guess what? Making the perfect smoothie is harder than you think. Often when we wing it, we end up with a smoothie that’s way too thick, too watery, or too sour. Here’s what you need for this strawberry blueberry smoothie for just the right flavor and texture…or jump right to the recipe below!

  • Frozen strawberries and blueberries: Frozen berries are perfect for smoothies: they add just the right icy texture and they’re easy to store. Even better: they’re cheaper than fresh berries!
  • Banana: All our smoothie recipes use room temperature banana: because we never remember to freeze them! The banana makes just the right creamy texture.
  • Greek yogurt: Greek yogurt adds protein, and has live probiotics that can improve gut health.
  • Milk: Use whatever milk you’d like: you can even get away with water here!
  • Maple syrup: Frozen berries can be fairly tart: more so than ripe fresh berries. The flavor needs a bit of sweetener here. Use honey or agave syrup if you prefer.
  • Ice: A bit of ice makes a fluffy, frothy texture.
  • Cinnamon: This is that little extra oomph that makes this smoothie great! Feel free to cut it back if you’d like it to be more of a supporting flavor (see notes in the recipe below).

Ingredients for the Best Strawberry Smoothie

Simple and easy, these ingredients combine to make a refreshing drink ready for any occasion.

  • Frozen strawberries: Using frozen strawberries thickens and cools the smoothie to be more like a milkshake.
  • Greek Yogurt: Adds creaminess, and calcium. Use non-fat Greek Yogurt for less fat.
  • Honey: Natural sweetener that has antioxidants in it as well.
  • Apple Juice: Also adds a bit of sweetness, but minimal flavor.

  • 1 banana, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1 cup ice
  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • a pinch of cinnamon
  1. Throw all of the ingredients into the blender and blend until all combined.
  2. Pour into glass and serve!

This strawberry smoothie is a healthy, filling and colourful way to start any day.

On a summer morning there’s nothing better than a strawberry smoothie. Packed with vitamins and producing a gorgeous colour, strawberries are some of the easiest fruit to get hold of in the summer months from supermarkets.

You can make this strawberry smoothie on its own or top it off with some wholesome granola, which you can make yourself at home. A delicious pairing, the cereal will provide a crunchy texture to your smoothie.

Recipes: Muscle Recovery Smoothie

I’ll be the first to tell you, that I’m not a huge fan of beet juice on its own. However, this smoothie is a game changer for me. It is absolutely Divine with a capital D. It’s light and easy to digest, and fuels me up without weighing me down between yoga and climbing. I’ve been excited to share this recipe for a few months, and now that it’s finally warmer weather, here it is! Don’t let the frilly photos and bright colors fool you, this smoothie is a lean fighting machine.

BOOST YOUR WORK OUT ROUTINE | So why is this smoothie so good for an active body? Nitrogen-rich vegetables like beets help increase blood flow to the muscles which speeds up your recovery time and boosts your energy. Studies have even shown that beets paired with spinach helps boost muscle strength. The bananas contain potassium to avoid muscle cramping, the flax provides good fats loaded with heart-healthy omegas, hemp provides a small protein boost, and cinnamon helps the pancreas metabolize the sugar from the beets/fruit. You can add a heaping spoonful of almond butter to mix for extra plant-based protein, if desired. I prefer to use fresh, raw beet juice made at home. But if you’re in a bind, you can buy it from at your local juicery, or your natural food stores that carries cold-pressed juice products.

STRAWBERRY, BEET & CINNAMON SMOOTHIE

1 cup fresh raw beet juice
½ cup hemp milk
1 frozen banana
5-6 frozen strawberries
1 large handful spinach
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp flax oil
pinch Himalayan pink salt

Clean and chop fresh 1-2 large beets. Using your juicer first, process the beets through the machine to separate the juice and pulp. Pour 1 cup of the beet juice into your high-speed blender. Combine remaining ingredients and blend until creamy. Transfer to a large glass or bowl to enjoy your smoothie with straw or a spoon. Top with cacao nibs, bee pollen and fresh berries for added texture + nutrition.
